Getting A Life, Part I

How does the place that gave birth to this also lead to this?

They even have an event called "Letting Go of God at Harvard." Sounds strangely familiar, no?

From their website:

"Humanism is a progressive lifestance that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment, aspiring to humanity’s greater good." "[We defend] the right of each individual student to choose the meaning of his or her life. For more than thirty years, we have stood for “deeds before creeds” at the world’s leading educational institution."

But what is humanity's greater good, where does it come from, and how can it be measured? How do you achieve personal fulfillment and make it last? What if you have no idea what meaning to choose for your life? Do you spin a bottle? Roll a die? Guess? What if you choose the wrong meaning for your life and never achieve fulfillment? How can you be sure that what you are doing (deed) is the right thing without knowing why you are doing it (creed)?

I think the pic of the guy on the website looks a lot like one of the folks who participated in the round-table discussion on Freud vs. Lewis we studied at CG last year..
