It must be voyeurism. How do we as a society go from rejecting all mention of God in civic life to watching 24 hour coverage of catholic ritual? People just want to catch a glimpse of a dead body.
It's a little sickening. People worship him as if he were God. God knows the papacy has had its dark secrets through the years. He sits in his palace, cut off from the suffering and need in the world. Under his leadership, hundreds if not more children are sexually abused. You must KISS HIS RING if you come into his presence.
What happened to servant leadership, like the King of Kings washing his disciples' feet? How does the pope command more respect and ceremony than Jesus Christ??
