here we are.

I have been in a desert the last couple of days. Instead of water, I am without friends/family, belongings, and internet access.

Okay, I will stop with the melodrama. It's not as if I'm in the middle of Tibet. But the temperature feels close to it. With all the hootchies walking the sidewalks of Boston, it seems more like L.A.

We made it! Our apartment is great, and will be even nicer once our stuff arrives on Thursday. I'll send more pictures later. Quincy is a quaint little New England town about ten miles South of Boston. Our apartment is on the edge of Blue Hills reservation, and from our balcony you can see part of the 7,000 acres of forest and lakes. Beeautiful.

I have been here for two days and I have already been to the mall three times. Former Bostonians have been telling me about Filene's basement (think: Macy*s discount store) and out of the two locations I've been to, I must say that the discount shopping seems promising. Who needs Loehmann's when you can get Mikasa fine china for $14.99 per set????

The asian grocery scene also seems promising, as we have a rather large Asian shopping mall with Lollicup and supermarket about 15 minutes away from our apartment. So I will not be without my staples - bok choy, baked tofu, and soymilk.

Now all we need are friends. In the two days I've been here, I've talked to:
the building manager, the cvs cashier, the bank of america teller, and the cable guy. No friends yet. But we remain hopeful.

I make one last trip back to L.A. this weekend before I have to really settle in and call this my home. DJ and I are thinking of this little adventure as a vacation, to help ourselves cope with being 3K+ miles away from home. Unlike other vacations, we hope this one goes quickly.

See you all soon.

um, as an aside to those keen on shopping. there also is outlet shopping within as 45 minute drive. and "essential" household items are tax free. (think clothes and shoes)

but really there are other reasons to travel to NE.

Filene's Basement is pretty awesome! I know what's it's like to be far away from you friends and family... the beginning is always hard but I'm sure you guys will meet great people and get plugged in to a good church soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you =)
