It must be the hormones or I'm finally growing a heart. Everytime I turn on CNN or FoxNews, I get choked up. This is really happening to people out there on the Gulf Coast. Funny, a week and a half ago, I'd never heard of Biloxi MS, levees, or the Astrodome.
It's also amusing to see the news channels jump on the next big hurricane-related buzz. The day before the storm, it was the whole thing about toxic soup. Afterwards, they said New Orleans was okay. The next day it was back to the toxic soup. (Kinda reminds you of Election 2000.) After that, it was levees, levees, levees. Yesterday, it was gasoline hysteria. Today the buzz is all about race. What next???
This afternoon Anderson Cooper asked Jesse Jackson if he thought the weak rescue and recovery effort is race-related. DUH. Why ask him when we all know what he's going to say??
And the looting. I know it's wrong, but they're stuck in 90 degree temperatures with no fresh wather, power, or clean clothes. Are you really going to blame them for wanting to pick up some extra cans of food or bottles of water? What would be really nice is if big corporations like Wal-Mart would cut their losses and distribute the goods as a service to the community. If SBC can offer free telephone service and hotels can give free rooms, these retail chains should give away some of their inventory. It would be the least they could do for the consumers and employees who contribute to their bottom line.
It's move-in weekend at BU. I hear that you don't want to be on Comm Ave this week or you'll find yourself stuck between moving vans. Speaking of universities, it's so great that college students from Tulane can enroll at most major universities for the fall semester at no-charge. Amidst all the pointing fingers, and "Lord of the Flies" behavior, it's nice to see some goodness.

it's the bureaucracy that's stopping goodwill to happen when dealing with large corporations.
