Me, me, me, me, me, me

I got tagged by Alvin to do this teenybopper xanga list so here goes:

1. I often wish for a re-do of college, and if I could, I would major in journalism or English.

2. I had a pet chicken when I was in 2nd-3rd grade. We watched it incubate and hatch as a class science project and I was the crazy kid whose mom allowed her to bring it home in a big empty laundry detergent box. The chick grew up to be a chicken, laid green eggs which we as a good Chinese family ate, and was eventually mauled by a cat and had its guts spread all over the backyard.

3. I often like watching movie commentaries more than the movie itself.

4. The things that first attracted me to DJ were his worship leader singing voice and his bad boy cartilage piercing. But now both are gone so I've had to find other things to hold this marriage together.

5. I am not a foodie. I regard the tartar sauce in McDonald's filet-o-fish as the gold standard in tartar sauces. Same with El Pollo Loco's potato salad and Spires' rice pudding.

6. The place where I am most often hit with realizations of my mortality is when I'm sitting at a stoplight. I am reminded that one day I will not be here anymore, doing this mundane task of waiting at a stoplight. And if I want to make something of myself, I had better get moving.

7. I am scared of the dark. When DJ's not home, I'll sleep with a light on. Can someone buy me a night light for Christmas?

8. I won 2nd place in a Torrance city-wide spelling bee in the 4th grade. I lost to the 1st place twerp because I spelled "diligent" with two L's. My dad still has the video on beta tape somewhere in our house.

9. I love dogs but I can sometimes be cruel. Like once I sprayed our german shepherd (RIP) and she ran away for days.

10. My favorite musicians are no longer making music: Billy Joel and Rich Mullins. But they've left me with enough material for a while.

11. The first time I realized my sister was smarter than I, it was upsetting, but now I'm happy for her.

12. Every year during my childhood, my dad would take our family on road trips to national parks. While this did not cure my fear of bugs, I did learn to appreciate camping and hiking and now love the outdoors.

13. In 4th grade my teacher Mrs. DeFalco sat us down after class one day and told us to use deodorant because we smell. I still do not use deodorant regularly to this day, although I probably should now that I'm married to a Korean and we eat large amounts of garlic and kimchi.

14. I once dated: a guy who dropped out of college to play poker, a guy who was arrested for stealing cars, and a guy who made me quit drill team because he was jealous of me dancing in front of thousands of people. And now I have DJ.

15. My comfort food is clumps of really thick sweetened oatmeal floating in milk.

6. I have a secret love for Michael Bolton's voice. In high school I dragged my friend Maria to one of his concert's and realized after seeing my mom's friend there that his fan base is mostly women over the age of 40, who are now over 50.

17. My mom used to boil hot dogs for our breakfast.

18. My "security blanket" was this stuffed cocker spaniel that my mom got from a bank. One day after school I found that she threw it away because it was dirty. Talk about traumatic. Here is a picture:

19. I dream about turning this blog about my life into an international sensation, money-making machine. Until then, I read other blogs.

20. I don't like it when people talk about themselves too much, so I'm glad this is the end of this.

Now who's turn is it to do this tedious exercise?

Haha - I'm surprised you actually went through with this teenybopper xanga stunt. :) Good for you! Your facts are so detailed too. So dilligent.

(BTW, on #11 - it's The first time I realized by my sister was smarter than I... I thought I'd proofread for you before she did.)

It's funny - I have a friend here in Texas who just did her 20 facts, and it also included one about wearing deodorant.

:) Do well!
