hypocrite

Today a black kid about high school age shouted an asian racial slur at me at a subway station. Instead of getting angry like I do when people assume Asians are all the same or not able to speak English, I am filled with disgust. African Americans have been fighting for justice and respect for so many years, and a young black man would do well to understand the damage that racially motivated behavior can do to people of color, which includes not just blacks but yellows, reds, browns. I think this younger generation (including that kid and myself) takes for granted the relatively pain-free life that we are only able to experience as a result of our ancestors/predecessors first paving the very difficult way.

Some of my friends are laughing at my militancy, but the fight goes on! Racism, although often clichéd and no longer a sexy, hot-button issue, is still rampant. We shouldn't have to fight each other as well.

Can't we all just get along?
