Are you tired of this view yet?
Church today was how it should always be. Some of you know I've been having a hard time adjusting to Citylife, not because of the church itself, but because I continue to feel like it's my first time even though it's like my 15th time. But today, I was able to worship freely and sincerely; the sermon came alive, reminding me that as much as the Pharisees couldn't clean the sin out of their lives by simply obeying certain rules, I don't have the ability to remove the sin out of mine. Sometimes we puff ourselves up because we are strong in certain areas but don't acknowledge the areas in which we fail miserably. When we do recognize those, we loathe ourselves into a self-punishment that falsely and temporarily replaces true redemption, which is only available through Christ and not a result of anything we do.
I am re-reading the above paragraph and realize that those words would have sounded so jargony, so Christianese a few weeks ago but are now so resonant, so convicting to me.
God is so good.
